TRIBUTE TO JANELLE MONAE

This year, we've said hello to a range of strange get-ups and hair-dos that I can only suppose are takes on the future of fashion (re: Lady Gaga and Kesha. Please no more meatwear or slutbag, dirt make-up). And for that reason (among many others), it makes me so happy when someone brings something new, yet classy to the table. Bruno Mars seduces me every time I tune into my ipod, and it's not only because of his smooth voice.

Whenever I hear Bruno, I see Bruno - in all his thrown-together yet classy looking style. How can you not picture him in his cute hat? It is also important to note that I now own a fedora. And with my recent obsession with Bruno Mars, I'm also pleased to announce my growing like for Janelle MonĂ¡e.

So who is Janelle and why is she on everyone's best of 2010 list?

For the purpose of this blog post, I'll cut the story short and say that she's a type of style icon that women haven't seen for ages. Her style is very reminiscent of Coco pre-Chanel and it's very inspiring for a woman to pull off a look that isn't "boho," "rocker glam," or "gothic vampire." It's also very refreshing. If I see one more make-up or fashion tutorial on how to pull off the rocker chick look, I'm going to slap a bitch. But I digress.

Here are some of her looks that I'm liking.

Can't wait to see what she brings in 2011. In the meantime, check out one of my fave tracks right now: Tightrope (Wondamix) [Feat. B.o.B and Lupe Fiasco].
