Looks for Less: How to Dress like Rihanna

Image via Kiss 92.5

Take a note from her team: "We're going for an easygoing, stripped-down thing that's not too showy, because we're doing these small shows," Ottenberg tells E! News. "It's really just sort of inspired by her jet-set lifestyle." This post in particular will focus on what she wore to her performance in Toronto during the 777 Tour.

It's Toronto, so you're going to have to cozy up if you're planning to Rihanna-it-up this season. Make sure you have a warm jacket, like this Ecote Faux Leather Sleeve Surplus Jacket ($99 from Urban Outfitters) - the leather detailing really helps since Riri luxes out her ensembles with black leather all the time.

Secondly, Riri has a thing for bustiers. So far, from what I've seen, she's worn either a bustier or crop top to every performance on her 777. ASOS has some great ones, like this Corset Top With Sporty Strap Back ($40.26 from ASOS.com). Her bustiers are usually not very lacy, frilly or feminine. They're a stripped down, Calvin Klein underwear sort of look. If you can score a black (faux) leather one, extra points to you. She wore one in Stockholm, as seen here:

Last, but not least, add some baggy pants. Wasn't a huge fan of the cropped cargo-looking pants she wore in Toronto, but I do dig the baggy look.  The joggers featured on the far right ($29.80 from Forever XXI) do the trick and still keep you classy. Can't go wrong with comfort.

Don't forget your red lipstick and claw-like acrylics. Then you're done.

No wait - shine bright like a diamond.

Now we're done.

Rihanna Goes East

By the looks of Rihanna's newer music videos, she seems to be taking a liking to the East.

Coldplay's Princess of China has very oriental styling.  Both the choreography and wardrobe choices reflect an Asian feel - obviously suitable for a song called Princess of China.  Although this is shot for different artists, Rihanna still projects and image that she carries forward to her own video.  Watch both videos below and you'll know what I mean.

Her latest release, Where Have You Been, is more tribal in nature and has scenes reminiscent of Arabia (note her harem pants) - still Eastern nonetheless.

I like that Rihanna is adding some solid choreo to her music videos (didn't see any crotch grabs in this one) and a variety of different looks.  Kind of got tired seeing her in body paint (re Umbrella,  Rockstar 101, etc.).

The Pyjama Trend

Pyjamas.  They're cute.  I sleep in them.  I lounge around in them.  That's about the extent of my experience.

But thanks to designers like Stella McCartney, they're showing up on runways and at celeb-worthy special events.  I'm apprehensive about wearing pyjama-styled outfits myself anywhere past my doorstep, but at the same time, the silky, relaxed appearance makes me think that this style can be pulled off elegantly if done right.

Recently, Rihanna stepped out for the Japan Battleship premiere, sporting not only a new hairdo, but also an amazing Emilio Pucci pyjama suit.
I think she looked gorgeous and liked in particular that she paired the outfit with tan sandals.  I would have expected gold or bronze, but the tan worked quite nicely I think.

Looking at a capture of just the jacket, I think Emilio Pucci's design would look equally as stunning (and definitely more wearable) if it was paired with a dark bottom.  Works both ways actually; the pant looks like it could also be elegant and stylish with a tucked in, simple tank or blouse.

Rihanna's style is becoming more and more impressive.  Can't wait to see what trend she sports next.
